BACKGROUND
When Mats was old enough to hold onto a piece of sandpaper, he became his
father's crew member. Early sailing experience was competitive and recreational, primarily in the Baltic Sea and the lakes of Sweden. In August of 1982, he left
Sweden in his 40' classic Swedish sloop for a six-month, round-trip cruise to the
West Indies. Before returning home, Mats was asked to deliver a Mariner 38' from
St. Croix to Annapolis, and he has been self-employed as a full-time delivery
captain ever since.
EXPERIENCE
Mats spends about 200 days a year offshore and has accumulated well over half a million miles as a professional delivery captain. Most of his deliveries are in the
area between Nova Scotia and the Caribbean, along the western Atlantic seaboard. Numerous exceptions include trips from Jacksonville, Florida to Budapest, Hungary; Toulon, France to Houston, Texas; Seattle to San Francisco; Chesapeake Bay to
Lake Champlain and Green Bay, Wisconsin; Panama to Tahiti to New Zealand to Australia.
